Billy Bragg Unveils New Protest Anthem in Solidarity with Palestine

British folk-rock icon and lifelong protest musician Billy Bragg released a powerful new single titled “Hundred Year Hunger”, offering urgent solidarity with the Palestinian people amid a devastating humanitarian crisis. The song’s release coincides with the departure of the Global Sumud Flotilla on August 31, a humanitarian mission sailing to Gaza—with environmental activist Greta Thunberg among its crew—to break the blockade and deliver critical aid.

The title references E. Mark Windle’s book Hundred Year Hunger, which chronicles a century of systemic food insecurity in Gaza—first under British imperialism and later used as an instrument of war by Israeli policies. Bragg’s song traces this bleak arc, framing the current famine as the culmination of enduring oppression.

In his statement on Instagram, Bragg framed “Hundred Year Hunger” as a lens on systemic injustice, urging listeners to recognize the deep roots of the famine and the political realities stretching back generations. Listen to ‘Hundred Year Hunger’ below.
