Love Police is beyond thrilled to announce the long-awaited, first-ever Australian tour of one of the great modern voices of the blues: ROBERT FINLEY.
The 71-year-old powerhouse, whose late-in-life rise has seen him conquer stages across Europe and the US, release four acclaimed albums, and become one of the most compelling storytellers in American music, will finally bring his blues, soul and R&B to Australia for the very first time in May.
Fresh off the release of his remarkable new album Hallelujah! Don’t Let The Devil Fool Ya (Easy Eye Sound), Finley arrives in Australia at the height of his creative and spiritual powers. The album—his fourth for Easy Eye Sound—was recorded with long-time collaborator Dan Auerbach, who has helped Finley channel a lifetime of stories, grooves and holy-spirit-charged spontaneity into a record that feels at once timeless and unlike anything else in modern blues.
After a lifetime of hard work, Finley has become nothing less than a spokesman for the blues. Raised in Bernice, Louisiana, he began singing after being baptised at age seven, cutting his teeth in church choirs before spending decades playing for tips, touring the world, and perfecting a voice that can hush a room or set it on fire. Since beginning his recording career at 62, Finley has released four celebrated albums, including 2023’s Black Bayou, 2021’s autobiographical Sharecropper’s Son, 2017’s Goin’ Platinum, and his 2016 debut Age Don’t Mean A Thing. He also became a fan favourite on America’s Got Talent, reaching the semi-finals with a gospel performance that moved audience members to tears.
With Hallelujah! Don’t Let The Devil Fool Ya, Finley finally achieves the dream he’s carried since childhood: putting his testimony on wax. Recorded in a single, lightning-charged day in Nashville with Auerbach and an all-star studio band, the album was built the Finley way—improvised, spirit-led, and completely in the moment. The crucial final ingredient came from Finley’s daughter and longtime touring partner Christy Johnson, whose spectral, soulful vocals bring a call-and-response depth inspired by the gospel records that shaped them both.
Far from a traditional gospel album, Hallelujah! Don’t Let The Devil Fool Ya blends the raw earthiness of Mississippi blues with soaring soul, gritty R&B and spiritual exultation—carved from the same well that shaped Sam Cooke, Sun Ra, and the back-roads choirs of the American South. It’s the sound of an artist—finally—testifying.
Now, Australian audiences will have the rare chance to witness Robert Finley’s extraordinary musical force up close. Equal parts preacher, bluesman, bandleader and storyteller, Finley’s live shows are renowned for their electricity, joyful grooves and transcendence.
