New Release: Mick Thomas’ Roving Commission – GoComeBack

The ARIA-Award winning former Weddings Parties Anything singer/songwriter and his band of fellow travelers are back with GoComeBack, a new album of stories, journeys, and homecomings, out today via Coolin’ By Sound Records.

Recorded at Neil Finn’s famed Roundhead Studios in Auckland with award-winning producer Steven Schram (Crowded House, Paul Kelly, San Cisco), the record follows the recent EP First Step in a Homeward Direction, which set the tone for the album’s themes of travel, belonging, and return.

The new single, A Mighty Ride”—sung by Roving Commissioner Brooke Taylor—celebrates Melbourne with a “lighthearted call for unity in a time of division,” says Thomas. “The bells on a number 96 tram chime to bring the song in and the band sail away in a joyous romp through their hometown.”

The album’s title, GoComeBack—a pidgin Indonesian term meaning “return journey”—is split into two halves: Go and ComeBack. The first side wanders far and wide, from distant tours to imagined islands; the second finds beauty in the everyday, from trams and sculptures to quiet seaside towns.

Captured live in studio, the six-piece band—Brooke Taylor, Ben Franz, Dave Folley, Mark “Squeezebox” Wallace, and Jen Anderson—bring warmth and grit to Thomas’ storytelling. Across twelve tracks, GoComeBack travels far but lands close to home—an album that reminds us that every journey is worth taking, especially the one that brings you back.

GoComeBack is available now at all good music retailers or online via bandcamp.
