After a seven-year gap, Melbourne alt-country outfit Roller One return with Fate Done Nice, a slow-burning, beautifully weathered collection that feels equally at home in inner-city backstreets and wide-open country silence. Built around Fergus McAlpin’s evocative songwriting and the band’s warm, understated interplay, the album leans deeper into the group’s “counter-country Americana” sound — sparse, poetic and quietly magnetic.
The singles “So Far”, “Sparrow” and “Motorsports” hint at the album’s range: from chugging, hypnotic grooves to folk-noir balladry and dreamy late-night reflection. There’s a richer, more electric energy this time around, but Roller One never lose the intimacy and emotional weight that have long defined their music. Fans of Bill Callahan, Lambchop and Townes Van Zandt will find plenty to sink into here.
Fate Done Nice is out digitally today via Cheersquad Records & Tapes with physical releases to follow 12 June 2026.
