New Release: Taj Mahal – Time

At 84, Taj Mahal returns with Time, a new album that reflects both his six-decade career and his continued creative momentum. The record sees him reunited with the Phantom Blues Band for the first time since 2008’s Maestro, delivering a collection rooted in blues, soul, folk, and Afro-Caribbean influences.

The standout is the title track, “Time,” a previously unreleased Bill Withers composition. Built on a restrained, groove-led arrangement, the song highlights Mahal’s understated vocal style and Withers’ signature songwriting approach.

Recorded remotely, the album brings together contributions from band members and collaborators, blending reworked traditional songs with newer material. Tracks like “Wild About My Lovin’” and “You Put the Whammy On Me” showcase Mahal’s long-standing focus on the breadth of Black musical traditions.

Time is out now via Resonatin’ Records / Thirty Tigers.
