After nearly twenty years, The Lemonheads are back with a brand-new studio album. Love Chant — out this week via Fire Records.
Written and recorded across shifting landscapes and years of reinvention, Love Chant finds Dando now based in Brazil, where much of the record took shape. Produced by Brazilian multi-instrumentalist Apollo Nove, the album balances fresh perspectives with the melodic warmth and wry intimacy that made The Lemonheads so beloved in the first place.
Old friends and new collaborators alike appear throughout. J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr), Juliana Hatfield, and longtime co-writer Tom Morgan all return, joined by producer Bryce Goggin (Pavement, Antony and the Johnsons), Nashville’s Erin Rae, John Strohm of Blake Babies, and Nick Saloman of The Bevis Frond. Adam Green of The Moldy Peaches also co-writes on “Wild Thing,” a playful country-tinged detour.
With standout tracks like “Deep End,” “Togetherness,” and “Roky,” the album reaches both inward and outward — a swirl of psych-folk, country charm, and classic Lemonheads melody.
In recent years, Dando’s influence has only grown, with artists like Courtney Barnett, Waxahatchee, and MJ Lenderman covering his songs and celebrating his gift for clarity and emotional punch. Love Chant doesn’t just mark a comeback — it’s a vital reminder of why The Lemonheads mattered then, and why they still matter now.
Love Chant is available now at all good music retailers.
