Cheersquad Records & Tapes today release Super!, the long-awaited debut solo album from Perth power pop and garage-punk favourite Benny J Ward.
Best known as frontman for Rinehearts—longtime Hoodoo Gurus tour mates whose 2023 Dom Mariani–produced album Full Bloom earned international acclaim—Ward has been steadily working on Super! for over two years, recording tracks and rolling them out as singles before pulling them together for this first full-length.
Self-recorded and performed, Super! brims with melody, hooks and energy, drawing on influences from ’60s garage rock and The Kinks through to Elvis Costello. Highlights include the jangly “Ice Cream Headache,” featuring Link Meanie and Nici Ward on vocals, and the punchy “Tell Me Tell Me.”
The album is out now via Cheersquad Records & Tapes in limited hot pink 12” vinyl (100 copies only), classic black vinyl and digital formats, alongside a CD release through US label Kool Kat Musik—both labels also issued the Rinehearts’ Full Bloom.
With live shows backed by Melbourne’s Psych Ward and Perth’s Thee Teleprompters, Benny J Ward brings the raw spirit of Super! to the stage, promising a pop-powered celebration of melody and fun.
