The Jimmi Carr Band, from the Blue Mountains in NSW, is releasing a new video clip for their recently released single ‘Monkey Kingdom’. The single has already been getting plenty of airplay including live performances on 3RRR FM in Melbourne and 2SER FM in Sydney during their ongoing national tour in support of the new album ‘Second Story’.
This follows the release of two previous singles and video clips from the album that have proved a big success, receiving airplay all over Australia on stations including Triple J, ABC radio, FBI and 2SER. Triple J’s Roots ‘n’ All presenter Nkechi Anele reviewed the first single ‘Free Right Now’ saying –
“[Free Right Now] brought a real smile to my face and made my morning as I put this on repeat. The way this song saunters along is fantastic. Rhythmically so exciting and fun the whole thing comes together so masterfully. Bravo!” – 4.5 stars.
The ‘Monkey Kingdom’ video was made by Blue Mountains filmmaker and academic Adam Daniel, who also worked with Jimmi on the previous video clip for ‘Invisible Bone’. The clip was shot at AFTRS film school in Sydney with help from current students. The clip tackles political themes through the filter of satire. ‘Cornelius Kong’ is a Gorilla politician facing off against ‘Dick Johnson’ in a political debate. Kong argues against Johnson’s environmental and refugee policies among others.
The release of ‘Monkey Kingdom’ and it’s accompanying video comes at the end of a big 2019 for Jimmi and the band. As well as the radio success for the album, the video for second single ‘Invisible Bone’ has been very popular, racking up 50,000 views and premiering on Rhythms Magazine’s website. Rhythms’ last issue also featured a double page feature article on Jimmi and the new album.
Jimmi and the band have done heaps of shows, including an album launch at Lazybones Lounge in Sydney and a showcase performance at Australian Music Week. The band is continuing to tour in support of the new album.
