Grammy Awards For Sierra Ferrell and Gillian Welch & David Rawlings

Recent visitor to Australia Sierra Ferrell has capped off an amazing couple of years with four wins in yesterday’s Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. Ferrell won Grammys for Best Americana Album with Trail of Flowers, Best Americana Performance and Best American Roots Song for ‘American Dreaming’, and Best American Roots Performance with ‘Lighthouse’. Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, who have just completed an Australian tour, won a Grammy in the Best Folk Album category for their album Woodland.

The Rolling Stones won their fifth Grammy for Best Rock Album with Hackney Diamonds, while The Beatles won their 8th Grammy, and their first since 1997, for Best Rock Performance for the single ‘Now and Then’.

Winners in the American Roots Music Field also included: Billy Strings (Live Vol. 1) for Best Bluegrass Album; The Taj Mahal Sextet (Swingin’ Live At The Church In Tulsa) for Best Traditional Blues Album; Ruthie Foster (Mileage) for Best Contemporary Blues Album; and Kalani Pe’a (Kuini) for Best Regional Roots Music Album award.
