It’s been 50 years since the death of folk legend Woody Guthrie, and to greet the anniversary Bruce Hearn & The Machinists will be performing two concerts to celebrate the life and the music of the iconic artist.
Hearn has always had a connection with the legendary folk artist, and will be performing the tribute with The Machinists. The band will be comprised of Kavisha Mazella, Chris Pascoe, Peter Beulke, along with special guests Mick Thomas and Kerri Simpson. The show will also feature the Victorian Trade Union Choir.
The announcement elaborated on Hearn’s connection to Guthrie:
“In 1968, Bruce’s parents took him to the National Theatre in St Kilda to see American folk legend Pete Seeger perform a tribute to Woody Guthrie, only months after Woody’s death. This concert changed the course of Bruce’s life, as he decided there and then to combine music and social activism.”
The shows will be played at The Caravan Music Club, The Spotted Mallard, and The Newport Bowls Club this December.
