In November of 1976, the Band played a star studded show billed as the Last Waltz at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco. Guest performers included Eric Clapton, Muddy Waters, Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Emmylou Harris, Ringo Starr, Neil Young and many more. The concert was filmed by Martin Scorsese and became one of the definitive concert films in music history.
To celebrate the Last Waltz’s 40th anniversary, Crazy Chester Records and the Mariott Shoals Hotel & Spa will recreate the spirit of the original concert experience with a show featuring an all star cast of artists and musicians from the Shoals and beyond including many who had worked with the Band and its legendary drummer and vocalist Levon Helm.
The lineup includes Tom “Bones” Malone who is best known for his work with the Blues Brothers and Late Night with David Letterman. Malone was in the horn section of the original Last Waltz and will lead the Muscle Shoals Horns at the show. He’ll bring the horn arrangements he wrote for the Band. Wet Willie’s Jimmy Hall, who’s currently touring Europe fronting Jeff Beck’s band will be a featured performer along Tommy Talton, Scott Boyer, Donnie Fritts, Mickey Buckins, Russell Mefford, Mitch Mann, Mark Narmore, Dana Abbott, David Hood and various others. The house band includes bass player Paul Ossola who was a member of Levon Helm’s band and can be heard on Helm’s Grammy winning album Ramble At The Ryman.
The show is produced by Andreas Werner who previously helmed production duties for the 2016 Alabama Music Hall of Fame induction show, Muscle Shoals Allstars shows in New York, Florence and Porretta, Italy and the 2015 Eddie Hinton tribute show at the NuttHouse Recording Studio in Sheffield, Alabama.
Sound will be provided by Sweet Tree Productions of Muscle Shoals. Designs are created by graphic artist Scott Campbell (Hard Rock Cafe).
