Grammy Award winning artist Jeff Tweedy has today announced his first ever solo tour of Australia. Jeff Tweedy will be playing songs from all stages of his career to date. Joining him will be Australian singer-songwriter Jen Cloher, excluding Meeniyan Town Hall.
Wilco have been regular visitors to our shores but this will be the very time Jeff Tweedy will be appearing solo.
As a founding member and leader of the American rock band Wilco, and before that the co-founder of the alt-country band Uncle Tupelo, Jeff Tweedy is one of contemporary American music’s most accomplished songwriters, musicians, and performers. Since starting Wilco in 1994, Tweedy has written original songs for ten Wilco albums and collaborated with folk singer Billy Bragg to bring musical life to three albums full of Woody Guthrie-penned lyrics in the Mermaid Avenue series. In 2014, he released Sukierae, a musical collaboration with his son, drummer Spencer Tweedy.
He has produced a trio of albums for iconic soul and gospel singer Mavis Staples: the 2011 Grammy Award-winning You Are Not Alone, 2013’s One True Vine, and the 2017 release, which he also cowrote with Staples, If All I Was Was Black.
This past November marked the release of his memoir, The New York Times’ Bestseller, LET’S GO (SO WE CAN GET BACK): A Memoir of Recording and Discording with Wilco.
November also saw the release of Jeff Tweedy’s new solo album, WARM, via dBpm Records. The 11-track collection was recorded at Wilco’s Chicago studio The Loft and features the singer-songwriter getting help from his son, drummer Spencer Tweedy, along with Wilco drummer Glenn Kotche and producer/engineer Tom Schick.
Joining Jeff Tweedy will be Australian singer-songwriter Jen Cloher, who’s last self-titled album was released to critical acclaim.
