From F Deluxe (formally the Family) Prince tributes, to Joe Zawinul’s Weather Report Legacy Band, laugh out loud comedy and one of the greatest U.S. Jazz singers of the moment Allan Harris, Bird’s Basement continues to offer a world of entertainment this October.
From the 5th to 9th of October, Bird’s Basement welcomes fDeluxe, formerly known as The Family. Worldwide superstar Prince instigated the band over 25 years ago and ultimately signed The Family to his record label. They received critical acclaim with their initial release and top 10 R&B Hit ‘Screams of Passion’ and they introduced the song ‘Nothing Compares to you’, which was eventually covered by Sinead O’Connor. After disbanding, they are now back together to pay tribute to the beloved Prince with members St Paul Peterson, Gary ‘Jellybean’ Johnson, Eric Leeds, Oliver Leiber, Brian Ziemniak and Stokely Williams.
Following fDeluxe is a brilliant tribute to the music of composer and performer Joe Zawinul. Created by Joe’s son Tony Zawinul, The Zawinul Legacy Band reignites the music of The Zawinul Syndicated and the famous American jazzfusion band of the 70’s and 80’s Weather Report, which Zawinul co-led. The band will be recreating the magic and infusing their own creativity and energy to Joe’s legacy this October 11-16.
Changing things up this October, Bird’s Basement is now hosting a whole week of beloved Comedians. From Dave Thornton, Joel Creasey, Mikey Robins, Cal Wilson and Hannah Gadsby to Bev Killick and Nath Valvo, Bird’s Basement is giving Melbournians some big reasons to laugh this October 18th to 23rd.
Featuring 3 comedians each night, prepare for the traditional and not so traditional self-deprecating, honest, topical, satirical and just downright hilarious comedy that Australia knows and loves.
Finishing off the month is award winning American jazz vocalist, guitarist and composer Allan Harris. Considered one of the finest vocalists of this era, Harris has been on the jazz scene for over 20 years, covering a broad range of contexts within the jazz tradition. Performing October 25th- 30th, Harris’ sterling credentials both in American and worldwide make him a must see artist this October.
There has never been such a diverse month of entertainment. Whatever mood
you are in, Bird’s Basement has what you’re looking for this October.
