National Folk Festival announces four more international artists to its line-up

The National Folk Festival has announced four more international artists to its line-up, from Ireland to Finland and, across to the UK and USA.

The Festival is delighted to bring to the festival stage Dublin folk singer/songwriter Aoife Scott, a major new force on the Irish folk and traditional scene. Aoife has been immersed in the music industry from a young age, listening to her family’s songs by the fire and from the stage, due to her impeccable pedigree as a member of the legendary Black Family, which includes her mother, award-winning folk artist and now politician Frances Black, and her aunt, the multi-platinum awarded folk icon Mary Black. Aoife’s music is touted as a ‘thrilling mix of the old and new’, with a voice described as fragile, ethereal and vibrant. Don’t miss this rising star at the National Folk Festival with her band, showcasing her debut album ‘Carry the Day’.

Get ready for some stirring rhythms and old timey inspired music with Flats and Sharps, who originate from Cornwall, UK. Blurring the lines between bluegrass, folk, country and pop, these five lads are pure entertainment with sublime five-part harmonies delivered at a breath-taking pace. Winning and wowing fans at festivals across the UK, this group of talented young musos are sure to win hearts and new followers.

All the way from Finland comes the exciting new Accrowbatics Quartet. With music strongly based around the diatonic accordion, this is original music born from the roots of Finnish tradition. Be captivated and enlivened, with this unique Scandinavian act, destined to leave festival audiences wanting more.

Take a journey into Appalachian music with The New Macedon Rangers, a dynamic Appalachian old-time duo from the US and Australia, whose powerful vocal harmonies and impressive musicianship have won them the respect of audiences around the globe. Showcasing an Australian National Bluegrass Mandolin Champion, the duo has also won fiddle and folk song contests in the US.

The National Folk Festival will feature over 200 acts across 18 venues this Easter 13-17 April at Exhibition Park in Canberra. The full program will be announced at the 2017 Festival Launch on 15th February.
