Tim Ries (long-time saxophone player with The Rolling Stones) is playing two exclusive shows in Melbourne this week, with a one-off all-star local Soul supergroup, Soul Serenade, on Thursday 16 January at Cherry ‘Soul In The Attic’ and on Friday 17 January at Yah Yah’s.
Tim Ries has played saxophone, keyboards and organ with The Rolling Stones for over 20 years. He’s also played live with Stevie Wonder, The Four Tops and The Temptations. His performing and recording credits include artists such as Rod Stewart, Paul Simon, Donald Fagen, Stevie Wonder, Blood Sweet and Tear, Lyle Lovett and Michael Jackson. He is also Professor of Jazz Studies at the University of Toronto.
Tim Ries’ Soul Serenade exclusive Melbourne shows will feature a one-off all-star band of Melbourne soul virtuosos arranged by Yuri Pavlinov (bass). The band also includes: Kylie Auldist – Lead Vocals, Graham Pogson (The Bamboos) – Drums, Ross Irwin (The Bamboos, The Cat Empire) – Trumpet, Aaron Mendoza (ex- Electric Empire, Mondo Freaks, Meg Mac & more) – Keyboards and vocals, Trea Hindley – Trombone (Melbourne Opera, Australian Baroque Brass etc), Gillan Gregory (Kylie Auldist band, ex-Strange Talk, Killing Heidi, The Chantoozies) – Guitar.
Tim Ries’ Soul Serenade will play a classic soul and funk power set (including a fair whack of Stevie Wonder and Al Green) and will feature some unique Stones and ballad moments too.
Izy will be the opening act.
