In April 2017 the Sweet Creeps & Outlaws Tour featuring Henry Wagons, Jonny Fritz and Ruby Boots will, over five shows, do a rollicking Americana lap of the Australian East Coast.
Kicking off in Sydney with a special dinner and show at the famous Porteno restaurant and bar on April 13 followed by Newtown Social Club on April 14the trio will then head south for shows at The Spotted Mallard on April 19, Caravan Music Club on April 20 and Meeniyan Town Hall on April 21.
Jonny Fritz will also perform at this year’s Boogie Festival on April 15 & 16, Adelaide’s Silver Raven Festival on April 22 and in Brisbane at The Triffidon April 23.
Henry Wagons is a true renaissance man, with a unique swagger reminiscent of a day when front men gave back bucket loads of charm and were shrouded in enigmatic mystery. Drawing on a broad-ranging swag of influences, Henry’s show is a high sensation roller coaster ride that ranges from the bluster of sweaty jumpsuit era Elvis, post karate kicks, to the sombre, drunken malaise of Lee Hazlewood. He can touch on the tenderness of a recently heart-broken Roy Orbison while simultaneously embracing the menace of Nick Cave.
Jonny Fritz makes a welcome return for the first time since 2015. When last we met our hero, Jonny had just wrapped up the purgative classic, Dad Country, his call to the rising generation for a renewed lyricism in country music, recorded in Jackson Browne’s personal recording studio and released by ATO Records. Now in his newest, Sweet Creep, which features Joshua Hedley and Dawes’ Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith, the lyricism returns, but with a wide hopeful grin. Recorded in Jim James’ makeshift hilltop studio in Montecito Heights, where golden twilight fills up thirsty grass valleys, Sweet Creep reverberates with the same feeling of sunny new vistas. Joining Jonny on this trip will be old time side kick and fiddler, Joshua Hedley.
Ruby Boots’ music will stop you in your tracks. The rising Australian star, now based in Nashville TN, possesses a red wine-stained soulful voice that crackles with swagger and sorrow. Her fiercely honest lyrics strike deep into your heart while her music delivers an alluring mix of Americana, Rock, Folk and Blues. Leaving home at a young age, to work on pearling boats, is where she found the distance, space and time needed to hone her songwriting skills. The result was her debut album Solitude which has been hailed as a landmark Australian release. The Music said, “There’s maturity and intelligence here in spades and the production is of the highest order … It’s the ups and downs of real life live encapsulated in song and Ruby Boots has captured that and more on her world class debut.”
A special trio of artists performing what will be some very special shows. Playing their own songs, each others songs, other people songs and more stories than a Ted Egan campfire session, Sweet Creeps & Outlaws is a musical treat and good time not to be missed.
