Love Police Touring has announced that the forthcoming October tour by Tony Joe White has been cancelled.
A statement noted that, “Tony Joe is not a young man, and the years of rockin’ appear to be taking their toll. After a recent show at Nashville’s legendary Ryman, the great man was almost unable to walk after suffering severe pain in his calves and had to be helped off the stage while in extreme pain. Since then the discovery of a bulging disk in his back has meant an immediate end to future engagements that involve significant travel until physical therapy can hopefully reinstate him to a healthy state for travel.”
“Tony Joe was to perform at the Out On The Weekend festival, as well as headline shows in Auckland, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and Sydney. Full refunds for the festival will be available for a week only until midnight on Tuesday, September 11. Ticket holders for all other shows will be contacted by the relevant ticketing agencies and receive a full refund.”
White’s management said: “Tony Joe has a bulging disc in his back that will require physical therapy for the next 3-4 months, and possibly require surgery down the road if the condition does not improve. We must also consider that Tony Joe is 75 years old, so his doctor has advised him to postpone these tour dates until after he has completed the program and had a follow up MRI”
“Tony Joe is the first ever act we toured some 22 years ago,” said Love Police director Brian Taranto. “We have a had a long and beautiful relationship with the Chomper, and although there is disappointment in this cancellation, we only send him love and strength in his recovery. We hope to bring him down here again once he has recovered for all his adoring fans to experience his greatness one more time.”
