Triple A Events have today announced The Masters of Sgt Pepper, a music panel event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Beatles’ groundbreaking album Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, to be held at Planetshakers in Southbank on February 24 and 25, 2017. The event will feature Sgt Pepper’s engineers Geoff Emerick and Richard Lush in conversation with Alan Howe (former editor of the Herald Sun and The Weekly Times), an acoustic performance from Australian rocker Davey Lane, and an audience Q&A session moderated by Leo Sayer.
This event is a rare opportunity for Australian Beatles fanatics to gain exclusive insight into the recording process of the iconic album. As engineers who worked closely alongside the band, Emerick and Lush will reveal everything from the stories behind the songs, and the personality clashes, to recording techniques and instruments used – plus much more. The audience will even have the chance to ask their own questions of the experts, courtesy of the roving mic manned by Leo Sayer. A post-panel acoustic performance of some Sgt Pepper’s tracks by Davey Lane will continue the celebrations in the best way possible.
Audience members will be treated to an incredible scene upon entrance into the Planetshakers Auditorium. A string quartet will be playing renditions of Beatles songs in the foyer for guests to enjoy, and there will be exclusive Beatles memorabilia available for purchase. The stage will be an explosion of colour, with a full size Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album cover as a backdrop, and screens on either side featuring audiovisual presentations pertinent to the conversation.
Thrilled to be facilitating this remarkable event, Brendan Pearse of Triple A Events enthuses about the record, “The Beatles had enough of touring and wanted to create an album that they wouldn’t have to perform live, hence Pepper. I think the colourful album cover is a piece of art in its own right, and back in 1967 at the start of the ‘Flower Power’ movement, it was the right album at the right time. Most of the big bands have had a “Pepper moment” – Eagles’ Hotel California, Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side Of The Moon, and many more!”
